What to bring to your shoot

Planning things the right way!

We've all planned something, gotten really excited for it, and realize we have NOTHING TO WEAR! At least that's what we think at first, whether it's a photo shoot, family vacation, trip to the beach, or simply going out to eat. Don't worry, sometimes simple is better. My best advice is to make sure your clothes are in good condition, clean, and NOT WRINKLED! You'd be surprised how well wrinkles show up in photos, and they can turn an amazing photograph into something you don't want to look at, because you're reminded how 5 or 10 minutes could have turned that wrinkled mess of an outfit into something you're proud to wear.

What do I bring to my session?

I suggest bringing 4-6 outfits and having a few accessories like a fun hat, scarf, shawl, or whatever you have tucked away in your closet that you had to have, but haven't ever found the right time to wear it. The more versatile your outfits are, the more we can mix and match them to create unique and fun combinations so your photos have the variety you're looking for! It's best not to wear your favorite outfit first, because you'll want to warm up to the camera, and your true self and best expressions are usually revealed towards the middle to the end of the shoot. You've heard the phrase, save the best for last!

What To Wear?

  • Plan your clothes a few weeks in advance, so you have time to make any changes or find that perfect accessory or piece of clothing.
  • Hang everything if possible, so there are no wrinkles. I have a portable steamer, but it can only do so much in a pinch.
  • Search Pinterest for outfit ideas or looks that you'd like to create with your own unique personality.
  • Make sure your clothes fit properly. Baggy clothes or two sizes too small do not look good in photographs.
  • Solid colors, complimentary colors, and simple prints like flowers or repetitive designs are less of a distraction. Large brand logos, wild graphics, and cray color patters make the clothes the main focus, not you, so keeping it simple is almost always the best way to go!

Where do I change?

It's definitely something everyone asks before the shoot, and to make it easy on you, I carry a popup changing tent, so you'll have the privacy to change and also keep your clothes from getting dirty or damaged. It's fully enclosed, so you can change in peace. Much better than finding a corner of a building or in a dirty restroom somewhere!

Marketing & Design

Okay, your cool blog is done. Now all that’s left is to publish and get readers. Think of blogging as part of your marketing strategy – because it really is.

Blogs help people find you through search engines. But you can also share your blogs on social media platforms to get people ooh-ing and ahh-ing over your work on your website. The goal is to show them around the place, dazzle them with your work, and hopefully they’ll end up booking their own sessions – or signing up for updates! Sharing is easy. Just click “Share” and post to the social media of your choice. Done and done.

Our last notes are about design. Both for your overall blog layout and for each post.

  1. People are visual creatures... but you know that already. A beautiful blog will encourage people to stay & read more! Your blog comes with a bunch of layout options so you can create a gorgeous experience for your readers.

  2. If you write a longer article, try to break up the words with images peppered throughout. Photos make for a more enjoyable read!

  3. If you have extra widgets, you can easily embed them in the footer or sidebar of your blog. Putting in a subscription form, for instance, is a great idea to keep people hooked on reading your blog!

That’s about it! You now know everything you need to make a great blog for your business! Good luck, champ. I know you’ve got this. But if you ever have any questions, drop us a line, and we’ll be glad to help!

Happy blogging!

Xoxo,
PhotoBiz
